Plant resources in West Sheshan Mountain

The area of the nine peaks has nearly 655 species of plants under 123 families and 415 genera. It has the most abundant plant resources in Shanghai.

West Sheshan Mountain: Quercus fabri Hance-Rubus hirsutus Thunb, Cyperus alternifolius-Herba Lophatheri-Trachelospermum jasminoides colony: The arborous layer is dominated by Quercus fabri Hance and Symplocos paniculata, accompanied by Aphananthe aspera Planch., Robinia pseudoacacia L., Magnolia cylindrica Wils., Dalbergia hupeana Hance, Castanopsis sclerophylla, Phyllostachys heterocycla, Lindera glauca, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Symplocos setchuensis Brand, Firmiana simplex, Cinnamomum camphora, Diospyros kaki Thunb. var. silvestris Makino and etc.

The shrub layer is dominated by Rubus hirsutus Thunb, Cyperus alternifolius, accompanied by Ilex cornuta Lindl., Lycium chinense Miller, E.pungens, Elaeagnus argyi Levl., Lindera glauca, Vaccinium bracteatum Thunb., Ligustrum sinense Lour., Bambusamultiplex(Lour.) Raeuschelex J.A.etJ.H.Schult., Bambusamultiplex(Lour.) Raeuschelex J.A.etJ.H.Schult., Rubus lambertianus Ser. and other shrub species.

In the shrub layer, there are also many arbor species, such as: Quercus fabri Hance, Symplocos paniculata, Aphananthe aspera Planch., Indigofera fortunei Craib., Dalbergia hupeana Hance, Castanopsis sclerophylla, Cryptomeria fortunei Hooibrenk, Phyllostachys heterocycla, Cunninghamia lanceolata and Diospyros kaki Thunb. var. silvestris Makino. The herbaceous layer is dominated by Herba Lophatheri, as well as Lygodium japonicum, PolygonumorientaleL., Herba Lysimachiae, Corydalis incisa, Carex tristachya, Polygonum hydropiper, Parathelypteris glanduligera, Arachniodes speciosa and etc. Interlayer plants are dominated by Trachelospermum jasminoides, accompanied by Wisteria sinensis, Parthenocissus tricuspidata and Parthenocissus heterophylla.

Phyllostachys heterocycla-Ilex cornuta Lindl. (Ligustrum sinense Lour.), Cyperus alternifolius-Polygonum hydropiper(Herba Lophatheri)-Trachelospermum jasminoides colony: The arborous layer is dominated by Phyllostachys heterocycla, accompanied by Zelkova serrata, Quercus fabri Hance.

The shrub layer is dominated by Ilex cornuta Lindl. and Ligustrum sinense Lour., accompanied by Lindera glauca, Bambusamultiplex(Lour.) Raeuschelex J.A.etJ.H.Schult., Clerodendrum trichotomum Thunb, Serissa foetida, Rubus lambertianus Ser., Indocalamus latifolius, Euonymus alatus and other shrub species. In the shrub layer, there are also many arbor species, such as: Aphananthe aspera Planch., Zelkova serrata, Broussonetia papyrifera, Symplocos paniculata, Cinnamomum camphora , Dalbergia hupeana Hance, Quercus fabri Hance and Cudrania tricuspidata.

The herbaceous layer is dominated by Polygonum hydropiper and Herba Lophatheri, accompanied by Oxalis bowiei, PolygonumorientaleL., Pinellia ternata, Lygodium japonicum, Plagiogyria japonica, Paederia scandens, Corydalis incise and Aristolochia debilis and etc. Interlayer plants are dominated by Trachelospermum jasminoides, accompanied by Wisteria sinensis, Ficus pumila and Euonymus fortunei.

In addition to the above major natural forest resources, according to the survey on the plant resources in the area of She Mountain by Shanghai Normal College, Botanical Garden, Natural Museum and other institutions under the organization of Shanghai Society for Plant Biology in 1982, there are also mosses, fresh water algae, macro fungi, ferns and lichens etc.
