Songjiang district is hailed as "Root of Shanghai", for its prolonged history and brilliant culture.

It boasts a large number of cultural relics and historic sites remained fromTang to Qing dynasty (618-1911). If you want to know more about the history of Songjiang, come to Sheshan.

Guangfulin Cultural Relic Park, Sheshan Observatory and Sheshan Catholic Church will offer you a chance to get to know Songjiang's historical culture.

1. Sheshan Catholic Church

Sheshan Catholic Church, is located at the top of West Sheshan, Sheshan town in Songjiang district. It was originally built in the 1870s by French missionaries and has been through several restorations. The existing cathedral was built between 1925 and 1935.

The cathedral is designed with Roman style of the Renaissance form, exquisite and gorgeous. It is also known as the "Far East's First Church". In 1989, the cathedral was announced as Shanghai's cultural relic protection unit. In 2016, it was listed among the first batch of China's 20th century architectural heritage list.
