Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort, the only natural mountain forest scenic area in Shanghai, held its annual mountain hiking activity on New Year's Day on Jan 1.

The event attracted many visitors, ranging from young to old, who wanted to pray for a prosperous new year by hiking a mountain on the first day of the new year.

Participants walked from Shanghai Happy Valley to East Sheshan Mountain and climbed 368 steps to the top of the mountain where they tied auspicious red ribbons on the trees. The route spans 2.2 kilometers in total.

A cultural and creative products fair was also held at the mountain foot and the mountainside to give climbers more options for entertainment and to rest.
