A special activity that allows kids to sit on giant water lilies has become a popular attraction in Chenshan Botanical Garden in Shanghai.
The activity, which is part of the 2023 Chenshan Botanical Garden Water Lily Exhibition, was launched in late August and has drawn many families to experience the charm of the aquatic plants.
The giant water lily, also known as Victoria amazonica, has very large leaves, up to 3 meters in diameter. It is the world's largest water lily.

According to the garden, the activity is open to the public on eight weekends in September, except Sept 30. Kids under 30 kilograms can participate in the activity for five minutes each time. The fee is 30 yuan ($4.11) per person.
The activity is held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm every Saturday and Sunday in September, weather permitting. Visitors can go to the Aquatic Plant Garden and queue for the experience.
The garden said it has assessed the bearing capacity and safety of the giant water lilies before opening the activity and has arranged staff to assist and guide the participants.
The water lily exhibition, which will last until Sept 24, showcases more than 320 kinds of water lilies, including over 170 tropical ones and some 150 cold-resistant ones.
