Trevor Christen, the deputy director of Adelaide Botanical Garden, South Australia, was invited by Hu Yonghong, his Chinese counterpart, to visit Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden on June 18.
Accompanied by the garden staff, Christen visited the garden specifically designed for people with visual impairments, vegetable garden, mine garden as well as the greenhouse and Chenshan research lab. He spoke highly of Chenshan's designs, the research facilities and the team.
Hu Yonghong, the director of Chenshan Botanical Garden, hosted a meeting with Christen and his team. In the meeting, Hu briefly introduced the history of Chenshan Botanical Garden and presented the achievements of its scientific research.
Christen also introduced Adelaide Botanical Garden, its current status, as well as the improvement plan.
Both teams expressed the desire for further cooperation.
Adelaide Botanical Garden is located in the north-east of Adelaide city center and has a history of 150 years. In recent years, its cooperation with Kew Royal Botanical Garden in Great Britain has made achievements on plant genetic resource and seeds conservation.
Adelaide's science popularization and education plan has won praise by the society. Officials from both botanical gardens discussed the possibility of a joint research on seed conservation and seed bank project.
