The Yuehu Sculpture Park is a garden culture park in Shanghai, on 86.7-hectares of land with a 31-hectare artificial lake, which combines Chinese elements with western art forms, mainly sculpture.
Visual feast
If you should visit the park at night, the first thing that catches your eye is a moonlit square and a gigantic granite sculpture created by Bulgaria's Gheorghi Filin, named "Flying to Eternity" in its center. Its masculinity and strength are similar to the impression that the park itself leaves visitors with.
Heavenly dialogue
There are a number of other western sculptures sprinkled about the park, made of stainless steel, cast iron, or granite, that converse with tourists silently in their majesty.
Cao Rizhang, the head of the park, explains his feelings about the park this way, "A hundred artistic works are like a hundred wise men – they communicate with you". This dialogue with heaven through abstract sculptures has to be mysterious, profound and thought-provoking.
Yuehu Hall
The banquet hall, with room for 1,000 people, perches on the edge of the lake, luxuriously decorated, with seven well-equipped conference rooms complete with video and audio equipment, offices, simultaneous interpreters, and lighting.
Its rooms are to be relished for their exquisite design; its walls adorned with exuberant plants, for example, are breathtaking. When night falls, sitting in the couch beside the window, you can enjoy your meal accompanied by a fountain, soft lighting, and music from the park, giving you a feeling of, say, Alice in wonderland.
