A Plant Photography Conference was held recently by the Chenshan Botanical Garden, during which Ge Binjie, a researcher from the Chenshan Specimen Museum, gave the main lecture.

Ge introduced four types of cameras, the single-lens reflex camera, single-lens translucent camera, mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera and compact digital camera. He compared the four and analyzed each one's unique features.

Ge also explained the functions and characteristics of various lenses, such as the fisheye lens, standard lens, macro lens and telephoto lens. He presented different photos of plants to interpret the effect of aperture, shutter speed, film speed and white balance.

Ge shared his experiences in wildlife photography and gave the audience three tips to achieve excellent photos. The first tip emphasized finding a good focal plane. The second stressed paying attention to both the plant's overall characteristics and the surrounding environment. The third tip encouraged making good use of auxiliary equipment, including the tripod and flash, and remembering to bring a hand pruner.

After the speech, the participants exchanged ideas about how to solve common problems, such as shooting in poor light. The meeting provided a good opportunity for plant lovers to communicate and encouraged the participants' interest in plant photography.
