Chenshan attends ABS Convention 2012

An ornamental plant research team from the Research Center of Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden attended the American Begonia Society (ABS) Convention 2012 in San Diego, California from August 4 to August 26. The research team gave a lecture entitled "History, Resources, Scientific Research and Industry of Begonias in China" at the convention.

The convention invited more than 140 scholars and researchers from the US, Japan, Canada and China. As the 80th anniversary of the ABS, many species of begonias were exhibited. During the convention, participants took part in academic exchange and the exhibition, appraisal and sale of begonias. They also visited begonia cultivation and production companies in San Diego.

After the ABS Convention 2012, researcher Tian Daike participated in field research on the Nelumbol lutea plant in Alabama, Florida, Missouri and Maryland with the help of American researchers and gardening entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, the research team also visited the Birmingham Botanical Garden, Florida Aquatic Nurseries, Missouri Botanic Garden and many other famous botanic gardens in the US

At the Missouri Botanic Garden, the team looked at plants in the specialized gardens and consulted begonia and lotus specimens in the herbarium.
