Skytrax, the famous international aviation research and consulting organization, announced its latest ranking of the world's airports for the 2013 Skytrax World Airport Awards in Geneva on April 10. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport made second place on the list of the World’s Best Domestic Airports. It was also named China’s Best Regional Airport for two consecutive years.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards cover more than 390 candidate airports from around the world. The final ranking was determined by a survey conducted among roughly 12 million passengers over 10 months. The criteria considered included 39 service products provided by airports during the process of arrival, departure and transit.
"Apart from service multi-functionality, at the review stage, we put more emphasis on the quality and individual characteristics of the airports when they provide services," said Edward Plaisted, president of Skytrax.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport has been focusing on providing detailed services for passengers through expanding its service scale and altering its management method with the aim of making itself the best domestic hub airport. Many special service brands have been created and improved during the campaign to promote an individual service culture.
The airport also provides a series of personalized services for passengers including free Wi-Fi, free charging facilities and railway ticket sales counters, leading other domestic airports. In addition, the airport also introduced more than 10 international famous brands, including Hermes, to the airport to meet the needs of passengers. Measures such as discounts and passenger activities have won praise from the aviation industry and passengers.
