Le Meridien Hotel in Shanghai's Sheshan National Tourist Resort held a charity sale, on June 24, where it raised over 40,000 yuan ($6,500) to be donated to a person suffering from lymphoma and in need of a bone marrow transplant.
The 15-year-old boy He Tao, was diagnosed with lymphoma last year at the Shanghai Changhai Hospital, and his family have had to sell their home and borrow 150,000 yuan to pay for his medical care. Nonetheless, it fell short of the money needed for the operation, around 200,000 yuan. His mother is a part-time worker in Shanghai and his father lost sight in his right eye in a car accident, which has made it impossible for them to cover the operation.
Le Meridien organized the charity after they heard the news of He's sorry state, and, with help from Weibo and Weixin, it aroused people's concern and got them to participate and 2,000 items were donated for the charity sale.
