The country's first exhibition hall of robot technology and culture, which will work to educate the public on robots, opened in Shanghai on Friday.
The public will be able to make robots, play interactive games with robots and watch performances given by more than 200 robots from various countries at the hall.
Courses on making robots have for the past 10 years been taught in some primary and middle schools in the municipality and teachers said the students are interested in making robots, which broadens their cognitive abilities.
In Qingpu District Experimental Middle School, a shop on robots is a compulsory course for students in the seventh grade and they are required to make a robot that is able to play golf.
Zhao Guojun, general manager of Shanghai Taijing, a company that specializes in the research and development of robots and which is an investor in the hall, said the company's goal is to build 3,000 such halls nationwide within three years.
Robots performed the popular pop song “Gangnam Style” and played soccer and golf at the hall's opening ceremony.
