Chinese people with Shanghai hukou, or household registration, can apply for passports online at any of the entry-exit offices around the city and receive them in seven, rather than 10 working days, the administration said.
For those who live outside the city, the waiting time will be shortened by about a third, to 15 working days.
Shanghai residents can renew their personal travel visas to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao at any of the 20 branch offices in Shanghai and get the visa within an hour.
Taiwan residents can apply for mainland travel permits on the online platform. The time needed is shortened from five working days to four.
The Exit-Entry Administration Bureau will provide a public WeChat account. Applicants' questions will be answered via this account.
