At 9 o'clock on the morning of March 29, the 2nd "Lao Fengxiang" Shanghai International Orchid Show, co-hosted by Chenshan Botanical Garden and Xinmin Evening News, officially started in the Green Theater of the garden.
At the opening ceremony, Hu Yonghong, executive director of the garden, Johan Hermans, president of the World Orchid Conference and Fang Yan, deputy director of Shanghai Greening Bureau delivered their speeches. Leaders from different departments, experts, journalists and many visitors attended the ceremony.
Themed as "The Orchid of Dream, the Choice of Taste", the show invited 17 professional teams from 17 countries or regions such as the UK, Italy, Thailand, Spain, North Africa, Indonesia, Uganda, Kenya, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, who brought with them over 70,000 orchids of more than 1200 different types. Apart from the grand visual feast, visitors to the show could also enjoy fine food, and convenient transportation specially provided by the garden.
Through this show, the organizers are looking forward to promoting intercultural communication and the research and sustainable utilization of orchids.
