The weather was great during the three-day May Day holiday in Shanghai, when Shanghai Happy Valley received nearly seventy thousand tourists, 14 percent higher than usual. And the tickets and operations revenues grew 15 percent and 16 percent respectively year-on-year.
Targeting a rather young market, the Valley featured musical culture during the holiday. From May 1 to 3, dozens of bands brought their most passionate performances to the Valley, and several professionals were invited as judges. After several sessions, the champion won 10,000-yuan ($1,600) and a two-month contract to perform in the Maya Water Park.
Shanghai Happy Valley undertook a number of precautionary measures to tackle the pressures of the tourist flow.
Firstly, the Valley opened at 8:15 a.m. on May 1, which was 45 minutes earlier than usual. In addition, traffic signs were put up at popular spots in the Valley and there were sufficient staff members to provide guidance for the tourists. While the numbers of tourists at different spots were generally balanced, Valley staff were there to interact with the queuing tourists, while management teams also went to the sites to find problems and provide prompt solutions.
With the summer approaching, the Valley officially started opening at night time. After experiencing all kinds of excitements during the day, tourists can choose to stay for a romantic trip at night.
