When a hill climb activity at Sheshan, in Shanghai's Songjiang district, began, on Jan 1, it had several thousand people joining the climb, with almost 4,000 locals, 1,145 people from other cities, and three foreigners, who set out from Shanghai Happy Valley in the district's Sheshan National Tourist Resort, at 10 am, and followed a route from Linhu Rd to Linyin Rd, to Qingsong Highway, to the gate of East Sheshan Park.

Sheshan held the first of these hiking activities in 2007, and over the years it has become a major Shanghai activity with its own local characteristics and sports tourism feel.
Taking part in this year's activity were Zhang Qi, deputy director of the Municipal Tourism Administration, and Yu Ning, deputy district head.
