Visitors to the Shanghai Chenshan Botanic Garden will be amazed by a sea of light-scented tiny flowers with star-shaped petals at the garden's North American Plant Zone.
The blooming flowers, called phlox drummondii, cover an area of about 13,000 square meters. The plants are low and bloom in clusters, with a wide range of colors---white, pink, purple and red, resembling a large piece of colorful blanket.
Phlox drummondii is originated from eastern part of North America, in the genus phlox of the polemoniaceae. The green leaves turn bronzing in winter and it is a perfect kind of ground cover plant.
The best time to enjoy the flowers is before late April.
