The Chenshan Botanic Garden will hold the first Chinese Roses Show from April 25 to May 10 with the theme of love.
This flower show will present more than 800 varieties of Chinese roses, covering a total area of 34,000 square meters. Main blossoms are at the Chinese rose island, quarry garden and green house.
Occupying an area of 6,000 square meters, the Chinese rose island features small landscapes built with Chinese roses.
The quarry garden is the park's spotlight, which is constructed from an abandoned quarry. It features a waterfall running from the Chenshan hill, 71.4 meters high, into a deep lake at the park, with Chinese roses and many other trees, shrubs and flowers decorating the quarry garden.
In Asia's biggest green house, about 16,000 square meters of colorful Chinese roses bloom splendidly, symbolizing the passionate love.
Moreover, the park has built two Chinese rose corridors with a total length of 250 meters. One corridor is in the square at the entry and made up of five colors of Chinese roses, symbolizing young lovers' emotions in different stages of a relationship. The other is made of 15 candy colors of Chinese roses, symbolizing the sweet feeling of girls falling in love.
Liu Yang, an expert on Chinese roses from the garden, said that the 20 varieties of Chinese roses in this exhibition are rare species that can hardly be seen in other parks or botanic gardens.
The Chinese rose originated in China, and was imported to Europe in the 18th century. The species is also important in the breeding of many modern garden roses, including Hybrid Tea roses.
