A lecture on the naming of different plants will be held at the Chenshan Botanical Garden on May 16.
Liu Su, an engineer and science writer from the botanical garden, will introduce how different varieties of plants are named and the origins of their Chinese names.
Liu has co-written the book Gene Story: decoding the secrets of life, The story of plant names and translated What a plant knows: A field guide to the senses.
The lecture is a part of the Shanghai Science Communication Forum, which spreads scientific knowledge by giving lectures and holding events.
