The 2015 Annual Meeting of IABG Asian Division, held at Chenshan Botanical Garden from Nov 20 to 22, issued an Initiative to promote plant conservation and professional training.
More than 100 scholars, researchers and officials from 38 international organizations attended the meeting hosted by the Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, to discuss this year’s theme, "what can botanical gardens do for our next generation".

A total of 15 speakers shared their opinions and research findings from the perspective of building the capacity of a botanical garden network, sound strategy and management of plant collection, the threat of alien invasive plants and database establishment.
The meeting launched the Chenshan Initiative, which calls for establishing networks for the protection of rare or endangered Asian species and constructing an Asian botanical garden training center. The center will develop botanical professionals for Asian developing countries by organizing training projects regularly.
