Hundreds of thousands flock to Sheshan during May Day holiday

Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort was swamped during the three-day May Day holiday this year as visitors flocked to the area in droves to soak up the unique festival atmosphere.

As many as 360,000 people visited the resort, yielding revenue of 20 million yuan ($3 million), up 48 and 13 percent respectively from 2015.

The 3rd International Shanghai Orchid Show was held during the May Day holiday at Chenshan Botanical Garden where more than 30,000 orchids of 600 different kinds, native to four different continents truly brought nature to life. The show attracted 100,000 visitors, up 50 percent year-on-year.

The Shanghai Happy Valley of Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort rolled out a vast array of spring outing activities including windmill flowers, cute animals, botanical plants, a balloon carnival and more than 100 rides. Happy Valley had a visitor turnout of 55,700.

The Moon Lake Sculpture Park launched the exhibition project "Sculpture Parks in the World", featuring delicate sculptures from Japan. Nearly 9,000 visitors came to see more than 50 precious artworks and 11 works of sculpture from Japan's Hakone Open-air Museum, taking on the forms of words, pictures and videos.

The Sheshan National Forest Park received more than 150,000 visitors during the holiday.

The Le Meridien She Shan Shanghai Hotel, Sofitel Shanghai Sheshan Hotel and Sheshan Forest Hotel welcomed 16,000 visitors yielding 4.84 million yuan revenue.
