Recently, Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden has come to be captivating for visitors for the abundance of flowers blooming in succession.
The chaenomeles japonica, more commonly known as Maule’s quince, a species of flowering quince included in the Rosaceae family, stands out for its varieties and the number of plants.
In the garden, more than 260 plants and over 30 species of flowering quince in various colors, such as chaenomeles japonica and chaenomeles speciosa (also known as Chinese quince and Japanese quince), are grown as ornaments and for exhibition. They are typically a low-growing, densely-branched, and deciduous shrub with spiny, often-tangled, gray-brown twigs. The majority of these flowering plants have been introduced from France, the Netherlands, and Germany.
The flowering quince, usually in dwarf plants, is a famed plant with bold colors and showy petals that blossom in spring. From the middle of March every year, the flowering quince species come into their days of flowers.
