China Coordinates City Orienteering Challenge (2017 Shanghai) is going to kick off at the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort on May 20. The competition is one of the most popular sports events in Shanghai and has been held for five consecutive years.
To finish the game, the competitors have to sprint through city streets and landmarks, and climb walls to find out all the coordinates on their routes. Instructions to the next coordinate are sent to their smartphones only after their team fulfills the task at the previous one. The team that uses the least amount of time on each route wins. There are some routes designed for foreigners. Often traditional Chinese elements, such as lantern riddle-solving and paper crane folding, are featured in the routes.
The contest actually presents a good opportunity for natives and other people working or living in the city to explore the city’s corners during outdoor exercise and sports with others.
