3. Sheshan Observatory

Sheshan Observatory on the top of West Sheshan Mountain is one of the oldest astronomical observatories in China. Its predecessor was the Sheshan Observatory of a European architectural style which was built in 1900.

With an area of over 8,000 square meters, the observatory workstation was equipped with a 40-centimeter binocular refracting optical telescope, which has taken more than 7,000 precious astronomical photos in the past more than 100 years.

It also has hosted a series of popular science activities for exploring the mystery of the universe, which has been named as "Shanghai youth science and technology education base" and "national youth science and technology education base".

In 2013, it was listed in the seventh batch of national cultural relic protection units. In 2016, it was included in the first batch of China 20th century architectural heritage list.
