Sheshan Resort has 12 mountains in total, four of which are located in Sheshan National Forest Park.
West Sheshan Mountain is 97.2 meters high and has more than 323.7 hectares of forest. Among the bamboo clusters is an earthquake track station, a former observatory that has served as one of China's astronomical research centers for more than 100 years.
East Sheshan Mountain is 72.4 meters above sea level and covers an area of 850 mu (56.67 hectares). The bamboo groves in the mountain create a tranquil and pleasant environment.
It is said that in the 59th year (1720) of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty, the emperor came to Songjiang for his southern tour and was amazed by the fragrance of the bamboo roots. After returning to Beijing, he ordered his retinues to make a plaque and later sent it to Sheshan.
