The Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park in Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort -- located in the Songjiang district of East China's Shanghai -- recently announced it will hold an archaeological activity for families on Jan 24 and will stage another one on Feb 6.

The park, which is 30 kilometers from downtown Shanghai, has been dubbed the "Root of Shanghai". It simulates the city's ancient way of life and exhibits its rich store of artifacts from the ancient inhabitants living in the area 5,000 years ago.

During the trip, visitors can take a close look at the cultural relics exhibited at the park and try their hand at archaeological excavation. A brochure on Guangfulin culture is offered to help them better understand the archaeological site.

After arriving at the park in the morning, visitors tour around several must-see sights at the park with a tour guide.

In the afternoon, they can learn about the history of archaeological discoveries and the park's many unearthed cultural relics at the Guangfulin Archaeological Site Exhibition Hall.

Under the guidance of instructors, children can learn how to identify oracle bone script at the Wind Wall Site and use tools to dig out and handle "special cultural relics" at the archaeological excavation learning room.

The one-day visit costs 398 yuan ($61.52) for an adult and a child and is suitable for children over 7 years old. Shuttle services are included.
