The Shanghai Oriental Land and the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden were recently given the title of National Green Camps for Youth Nature Education – becoming the first such camps in East China's Shanghai, local media reported recently.
The two camps provide children with opportunities to explore nature and learn about conservation through various research and education activities.
The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden – located in the Sheshan National Tourist Resort – covers an area of over 3,100 mu (206.67 hectares).
It features more than 20 specialized gardens, three exhibition greenhouses, a specimens hall and a group of greenhouses.

The garden also has a number of popular science facilities, such as a tropical plant experience hall, a science cinema, a small zoo, a children's botanical garden, vine garden and tree houses.
In addition, the garden has a full time popularization science team and a part-time expert team, as well as different types of learning materials, to offer extracurricular instruction for primary and secondary school students from across the country.
Meanwhile, the Oriental Land camp organizes various activities such as forest explorations, ecosystem observations, as well as training in environmental protection and outdoor survival skills.
The camp aims to nurture children's love for nature and awareness of environmental protection, as well as enhance their physical and mental health.
