If you've ever wondered what plants do at night, then the Chenshan Botanical Garden in East China's Shanghai invites you to explore the secrets of its greenhouse plants in a special night tour.
The night tour of the giant greenhouse there runs from 18:15 to 20:15 hrs on selected dates in August.
It enables visitors to observe the different behaviors and characteristics of plants in three themed pavilions – the Tropical Flower and Fruit Pavilion, Desert Plant Pavilion and the Rare Plant Pavilion.
Through the guidance of science teachers, visitors can learn about the survival and evolution strategies of plants in various environments – such as the baobab tree, used as a "water tower" by Africans and the plants with juice that are 10,000 times spicier than pepper.

Visitors can also use flashlights to enhance their senses and perception of nature and discover how plants have biological clocks and sleep patterns. Some plants only bloom at night for specific purposes, while others close their leaves and enter "sleep time".
The night tour aims to help visitors learn how to co-exist with the environment and stimulate their ability to explore nature. It also provides a rare opportunity to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the botanical garden at night.
Note:
The cost of the night tour is 228 yuan ($32) for a parent-child group, with an additional charge of 108 yuan per person for extra participants. Visitors need to bring their own flashlights and use mosquito protection before coming. This activity is not affected by rain.
