Shanghai to host air carnival during holiday

The Shanghai (Sheshan) Air Carnival 2023, a family-friendly event that offers various aviation-related activities, will be held from Sept 30 to Oct 5 at the Xuanfeng Aviation Camp in the Songjiang district of East Shanghai.

The carnival will feature a Boeing 737 simulator, where visitors can experience the real cockpit of the passenger plane and ‘fly’ with a professional instructor for 15 minutes.

They can also try the Red Bull Longleat simulation flight, which mimics the world's fastest maneuverable series of aircraft on a computer simulator.

Other attractions include model plane DIY and flights, drone flights or remote control car driving, drone model plane performances, mountain bike riding, archery, off-road karting, frisbee throwing, football and camping.

The carnival will also have a science museum visit, where visitors can learn about the history and development of aviation and take pictures at the Xuanfeng Aviation Exhibition Hall.

The organizers said the carnival aims to promote aviation culture and education and cultivate the interest and passion of children and young people in aviation.

The event will be open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm daily. Visitors can choose from two packages: Package A, which includes all 11 items, costs 498 yuan ($68) for up to two adults and two children; and Package B, which excludes the science museum visit, the Boeing 737 and the Red Bull simulation flight, costs 338 yuan for up to two adults and two children.

The organizers also provide free travel insurance with a maximum coverage of 300,000 yuan for the participants, who need to register and provide their name and ID number.

Other paid items include helicopter low-altitude tours, barbecues, drinks, having tea around the stove, watching stars under the mountain (overnight), Sheshan leisure riding and more.

The organizers are reminding visitors to follow the rules and precautions of the carnival, such as taking care of their personal belongings, protecting the environment, avoiding fire and smoking and maintaining discipline. They also said the carnival will be canceled or postponed in case of bad weather or force majeure factors when the fee will be refunded or changed without loss.
