It's October and the Shanghai Chenshan Botanic Garden – located in the Sheshan National Resort in East China's Shanghai – comes alive with the mesmerizing charm of cherry blossoms.

Among the captivating varieties on display are the Rosebud Cherry, as well as the Flowering Cherry and the Winter Cherry.

The Rosebud Cherry boasts an extended blooming period from late autumn to early spring. During this time, it unveils delightful clusters of semi-double flowers in delicate shades of pale pink. These blooms begin as crimson buds and gradually transition to a pristine white hue as they mature.

The Flowering Cherry is the recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit – a mark of quality granted since 1922 to garden plants by the Royal Horticultural Society in the United Kingdom.

This award-winning tree takes center stage in the early to mid-spring season, adorned with clusters of semi-double, shell-pink flowers. These generously sized blossoms measure up to 4 centimeters across, featuring 10-12 delicate petals.

On the other hand, the Winter Cherry's flowers flaunt single petals in varying shades, ranging from pure white to a gentle pale pink. These blooms appear sporadically from the lower regions of the tree, creating an overall impression of a more modest flower display. Most notably, the Winter Cherry's flowering season tends to be later, with scattered blossoms often lingering into December.

While the autumn cherry blossoms at Chenshan Botanic Garden may not blanket the landscape as extensively as their spring counterparts, they offer a more extended blossom season that typically begins mid-September and continues through November or even December.
